Congratulations to Wendell Berry

I aspire to write as well as Wendell Berry, one of my favorite authors. It’s not just his sensibilities about nature and society that I agree with and in which I find inspiration. Wendell Berry is a masterful writer whose nonfiction essarys are so crystal clear it is almost impossible not to come away convinced by his arguments. He’s also a terrific poet. And he has some great advice:

“Don’t own so much clutter that you will be relieved to see your house catch fire.”

So I was glad to learn this morning that Wendell Berry is a recipient of a 2012 James Beard Foundation Leadership Award.

“Whether we and our politicians know it or not, Nature is party to all our deals and decisions, and she has more votes, a longer memory, and a sterner sense of justice than we do.”
